no stiffness anywhere.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">-What is it you like best about Hazard?<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1025\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rodeoclassifieds.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Hazard-pic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1025\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1025\" title=\"Solanos Millionaire\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rodeoclassifieds.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Hazard-pic-300x239.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.rodeoclassifieds.com\/blog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Hazard-pic-300x239.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.rodeoclassifieds.com\/blog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Hazard-pic.jpg 936w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1025\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kim and Hazard at the Northern Lights Futurity<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This colt can handle a lot of pressure, you can&#8217;t blow him up.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">-How did you feel your runs were this past weekend?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the first go round he worked great.\u00a0 In the second I was unaware that they had moved the pattern closer to the out gate making the first barrel a bit more blind.\u00a0 My colt didn&#8217;t see it at all and was still a bit lost even over to second.\u00a0 In the short go he worked really well however I cued him a step too early on third and it cost us having a good turn.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">-How do you prepare for your runs (warm up etc)?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I make sure that there is no stiffness, that he is listening and super responsive, and all his muscles are warm and ready to go.\u00a0 I like him to see the alley as much as I can because the working pedigree comes out in him and he sees EVERYTHING!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">-What kind of saddle do you use?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I have a few but generally use my Circle Y Marlene Eddleman or older drop down riggin Martin for my important runs right now.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">-What kind of pad do you use?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Cactus Relentless 3\/4&#8243;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">-What kind of bit do you use?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On this colt I use the medium shank twisted wire with dog bone Ed Wright with a leather chin strap.\u00a0 He loves that mouthpiece.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">-How do you keep your horses in shape?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I find my young horses run better if they spend\u00a0a lot of\u00a0time in the arena perfecting &#8220;my style&#8221;.\u00a0 I have a variety of drills I like them to be capable of performing.\u00a0 If I think they need a break or are super perfect on those drills, I will long trot in the field and up hills.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">-Are there any specific goals you have set for yourself and your horse this season?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Hazard surpassed the goals I had initially set.\u00a0 I had wanted to do well at the futurities consistently no matter what the set up, I just didn&#8217;t know he would do that well with his timid attitude.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">-What lead you to be a barrel racer?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I grew up in a rodeo family.\u00a0 I was more known for being an all around cowgirl in my younger days.\u00a0 As you get older those events aren&#8217;t as available so I stuck with barrel racing.\u00a0 I found it challenging to bring a horse &#8220;from the ground up&#8221; and have really worked\u00a0on improving &#8220;my style&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">-If you were to share a training\/rodeo tip what would it be?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Buy the best horse you can absolutely afford, keep them super supple, and learn from those who win consistently on different horses in all types of arenas.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">An interesting tidbit to add from Kim is that she runs Hazard and all her other horses barefoot and trim them herself.\u00a0 She loves it &#8211;
