The 2011 season of the Canadian Barrel Futurities is close to starting with the Delburne Barrel Bonanza just around the corner. The inaugural event will take place on May 14 in Delburne, Alberta. It is a 2D futurity and derby with the futurity have a 7 tenths split and the derby a 5 tenths split. The low entry fees and divisional format should make the event attractive for those wanting to break into the futurity scene with their colts and test out the waters. <\/p>\n
In the past the South Country (Cardston, AB) and Silver Sage (Brooks, AB) events would have been the first two events in May. This year they have moved their dates to July 8-10 and July 16 and 17 respectively. The first payment for the South Country event isn\u2019t far off, being due May 1st. <\/p>\n
The Coteau Range futurity in Moose Jaw will be running from August 19,20 and 21, with the Northern Lights Futurity over the September long on September 3rd and 4th. The Melville Futurity remains tentative at this time for the weekend of September 10th and 11th. The Canadian Barrel Futurities tour will again conclude in Thorsby, Alberta with the CBHI Futurity over Thanksgiving weekend (Oct 7-9). <\/p>\n

The Canadian Barrel Futurities is in its 10th year of promoting the growth of Barrel Racing Futurities & Derbies in Canada. The futurities in this tour are all for horses under 5, and the derbies are for horses 7 and under. Futurity horses can begin competing as of Dec 1 prior to their futurity year. <\/p>\n
