The Daines Ranch Rodeo near Innisfail, Alberta\u00a0 was the place to be June 14th-17th.\u00a0 Barrel Racers from North and South of the border came to win a piece of the pie.\u00a0\u00a0 Carlee Pierce from Stephenville Texas took home the $10,481.00 first place paycheck and added it to her WPRA standings to take over the lead in the world standings.<\/p>\n

Carlee was gracious enough to take the time out of her travel schedule to answer some questions for us.\u00a0 Below, you will be able to watch a video of the complete final round. Katy Lucas was in attendance to put this video together for us.<\/p>\n

-What is the name of the horse you ran?
\nRare Dillion<\/span><\/p>\n

-How old is he?
\n12<\/span><\/p>\n

-How long have you been running barrels on him?
\nI’ve owned and ran him for a little over a year<\/span><\/p>\n

-What is the training background on this horse?
\nHe was trained by Anessa Self<\/span><\/p>\n

-What is your training and riding style with your horse?
\nFree running with rate. I push him past each barrel and let him finish on his own.<\/span><\/p>\n

-What is it you like best about him?
\nHe has the biggest heart. He is my best friend.<\/span><\/p>\n

-You won the rodeo, but did they feel like a “winning run”?
\nMy run didn’t feel as fast as usual, but we are still trying to figure out the dirt up here. \u00a0I was very happy to know I won first at such a great rodeo.<\/span><\/p>\n

-How do you prepare for your runs (warm up etc.)?
\nI don’t warm up a bunch. I trot and lope straight lines and then let him pick at grass until my run.<\/span><\/p>\n

-What kind of saddle do you use?
\nCactus Barrel Racer<\/span><\/p>\n

-What kind of pad do you use?
\nCactus pads<\/span><\/p>\n

-What kind of bit do you use?
\nJim Warner Hackamore<\/span><\/p>\n

-Are there any specific goals you have set for yourself and your horse this season?
\nOur goal is to go to the Canadian Finals Rodeo and WNFR and win.<\/span><\/p>\n

-What lead you to be a barrel racer?
\nMy mom was a barrel racer and she passed that addiction on to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

-If you were to share a training\/rodeo tip what would it be?
\nStay focused and always strive to be the best you can be. \u00a0You are only as good as your competition so push to run against the best. Always give all the glory to God, without God nothing is possible.<\/span><\/p>\n
