Re: Pulling back

One way to save your halter and shank is to tie a truck tire inner tube to a post. hold the tube flat against the post and tie the rope so the rope goes right across the middle of it, if that makes sense. then fold it and tie your shank to it by running it through the middles. this will give and str...

Re: Reins flipping over

you can just hobble the reins together. kelli tolbert does it as well as lindsey. just use a small thin string or rope and tie it on either side of your reins

Charmayne James DVD #3

Hey all just wondering what people think of Charmayne's newest dvd. Is it similar to the first 2 or is it different content? Is it worth buying?

Re: Transition Bits

on my barrel horses i like to transition from a ring snaffle to a loomis. on our ranch/cow horses i'll usually transition from a ring snaffle to a short shank 3 piece snaffle. reinsman has one with a lifesaver that lots our horses seem to like. i also like one that keith welling makes. its a 3 piece...

Re: Speckle Park Cattle

we get a few at our feedlot and are getting more all the time. they are GREAT cattle. grade very well, finish quickly. they are very quiet and we hardly get any sick or dead ones. In my opinion they are right next to angus as far as quality goes. I can't say enough good things about them. Cant give ...

Re: Red/Blue heeler cross

My parents have had purebred red and blue heelers since I was a little kid and breed them as well. It does depend on the individual personality, but even our friendliest have all growled at the odd stranger kid that comes to our place. we haven't ever had much of a problem of them chasing our horses...

Re: Barrel bits- Do you get what you pay for?

Although I have never had any custom made bits, buying bits is certainly something I don't cheap out on. It is such an important tool of communication between you and your horse so I always pay the extra dollar. Most of my bits were between 65 and 200 dollars at the time I bought them. Maybe I'm wro...

Try Frontier in Claresholm. I know they have done a few custom rope/barrel all around saddles before.

Re: Rules of Conduct

Barrel Horse News magazine had a really interesting article about this back in their august 2010 issue. It gives lots of rulebook examples and says the BFA requires horse abuse accusations be supported in writing by at least 2 people. If found guilty the member could be suspended from the associatio...

Re: Trailer Floors

Ive heard bad things about the rumbar. That it provides no shock absorbtion and can be super slippery. I've always found the big rubber mats are the best, even though they are a pain in the butt to pull out and clean. Try cutting out little squares in the corners, then you can hook a rope or chain t...

Ranch Horse Competitions

Hey all I'm looking to do some ranch horse competitions this spring. Does anyone know if there is a main website with a list of ones in Alberta, Sask, BC or where to find ones to enter? Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: New to Alberta

Lausens arena south of Strathmore on 817 ropes monday and wednesday nights. Mondays are slow cattle, wednesdays are faster ones. I think its 15 bucks a horse. Take a coat with you if you go theres no heat in there yet.
