Re: Rate & Leads

Just take him out for a run, and make him think: do turns and run over logs and make him think. Let him learn to rate himself. A good barrel horse rates for him/her self. But they need to learn to be sure footed and think for themself. It will be hard for you to let him go completely and he lukly wi...

Re: PSSM Advice Please

I had a horse that use to get so excited prior to a race that he produced so much acid, that it built up in his muscles so much that he would loose control of his bladder and leak pee. My vet recommended electrolytes after (like you are using), but also tums 30 minutes before he would get excited......

Re: Inflammatory Airway Disease (IAD)

I am sorry to hear that. Good news is most horses live fantastic lives! Even with COPD! 8o) And with proper management you will never notice the difference. Only in heavy racing does this diagnosis become something that poses early retirement. So let’s start with drugs I am not sure what drugs the v...

Founder in Skinny Horses (laminitis)

I have read and read over the internet however I think many people out here have had ex-racehorses, or know of someone who has. So I thought I would pose the question in hopes someone may shed some more light on this issue. • I have an ex-racehorse Quarter Horse (4 years previous on the track, he ha...

Re: Favorite Flex tree Saddles

In speaking with a saddle maker I mentioned the flex tree or treeless. I questioned the pressure distribution. He pointed out that with both treeless and flex the horn and cantle are solid so when the horse slams into the turn all that pressure is now isolated to one area or even worse one small pin...

All your comm...

Re: Peoples thoughts on a High Dollar Barrel Race

Finding the combo of good horse and good income may be hard at $250. Horses are expensive and many people don’t have $250 which is disposable, and if they do they have to have the horse. Given if you have the money to buy the 1D horse you will likely have the credit/money to cover the entry fee. Let...

Re: Bad Cough, what to do?

If your horse is ill you put others at risk – that is everyone’s opinion with a healthy horses But when you take a horse that is ill, tired, or weak – YOU risk them catching MUCH more than they already have! Remember a healthy horse can touch/breath in something and fight the infection (without you ...

Re: backin out of a trailer

I taught my yungster by acident. He always wanted in the trailer with the older horses so he use to get his front feet in and I would tell him to back up – we did this a lot LOL. When he finally got all 4 feet in he never though twice about backing up. And now he would back out of the trailer if it ...
