Sending a Horse South For Training

A friend of mind is sending her gelding for three months training to a trainer in South Dakota. What are the ins and out of the getting across the border, paperwork, etc? My understanding is that papers need to be permanent because it is for 90 days, this means a vet inspect at the border, but what ...

Exporting Horses to US

Just a question...

What happens if you get temporary export papers for a horse but sell the horse while it is across the border? Does it need any other paperwork?
Thanks,

Choosing a Colt Starter

How do you choose the best colt starter for a barrel prospect?? I have a coming two year old colt that I need to send to the trainer shortly and want to get the best possible start with the end goal being a barrel horse. That being said - he is cowbred and I would like him to get exposed to cows, ro...

Re: Horse Coolers---Best type?

I think wool is the better option. The properties of wool are better suited for wicking away the moisture.. I have both and the wool is my favorite. It is also tougher.

Re: Lynn Mckenzie barrel saddle

I have been obsessing about saddles just recently to trying to fit me and my horse who is a pretty muscular 10 year old stallion with a only a moderate wither. Thanks to another super nice barrel racer - I have had the great opportunity to ride in a Lynn McKenzie special which fit me awesome!!! Unfo...

Saddle Seat Size

Just curious about seat sizes that people are riding in. I am going to get a new saddle in the Spring and am debating size. I currently ride in two 14" saddles. One is a Billy Cook I bought brand new about 6 years ago and it has roughed out fenders and a suede seat. Super comfy saddle and it si...

Re: Calming Nervous Barrel Horses

I don't have a nervous barrel horse but I do have a stallion that gets very excited. He is manageable in a best of two barrel jackpot but when I have to do poles after barrels or a couple of pole runs in a row its tough because he gets so pumped up and strong. This concerns me because I am heading d...

Re: Barrel Racing Saddles - Form to Function

Thanks for the info on the gullet size question. It always interesting to hear new ideas. However - I didn't get one response regarding a saddle that really helps you get up and ride. What I was looking for was some examples. Would a Tod Sloan have stirrups hung a little differently then a Billy Coo...

Barrel Racing Saddles - Form to Function

I am sure barrel saddles have discussed on this forum many times over the years but I am hoping that this thread will spark a slightly different discussion. I am hoping to hear from barrel racers that have ridden in a variety of barrel saddles and how they have determined their favorite and how it h...

Horse Insurance

I know this has been discussed previously as I was looking through the archives. After reading through some old posts it seems that some of you use an American Insurance Company called Wilkins. I went on their website and talked to a rep and they definitely seem more user friendly then my current in...
