Re: Suppliments

Recovery EQ for joints Greenline Ultimate Vitamin/mineral - from Greenhawk and ground flax these items are anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatories, etc. If you're worried about muscle fatigue and recovery after runs... that's more nutritionally in depth. horses need carbs to replace the glycogen lost dur...

Re: Supplement for tendon injuries

Recovery EQ You need to support the regrowth of healthy tendon fibers. the biggest problem when a tendon has been damaged, is that the fibers grow back like scar tissue. so instead of lining up all nice and parallel they recover all cross-hatched and hard. they regrow with type 2 collagen where as a...

Re: Conditioning program for tendons

slowly! depends on the severity with how slow, I had a mare with a tendon injury and i didn't compete on her for 2 years. If you don't rehab it right the first time it will be worse the second time. I started hand walking 15 minutes. then under saddle 15 minutes for a week. increased 5 minutes a wee...

Re: Lisa Lockhart Flex Tree Saddle

I got one a few weeks ago and I LOVE it. it was instantly comfortable for me, even more comfortable than my "old faithful" that I've rode in for years. The stirrups are pre-turned and hung straight down and under you, it keeps you really centered and allows you to be up and forward really ...

Re: Minerals

Have your hay tested and it will tell you all the mineral amounts in it. Often horses do receive their mineral requirements from hay alone but hay does not have vitamins so those often need to be supplemented. If you horses are on healthy ample pasture they should be receiving all the vitamins and m...

Re: Gelding colts

What I've been told is that the younger they are, the less blood vessles they have going to the testicles, which make healing easier, which would be a plus for doing it earlier. Personally though I would not geld in the summer, if the surgery is done in the field, the incision must remain open for d...

saddle fit for odd (?) horse - please see pic!

Hi there, looking for some input on what specific features I should be looking for in getting a saddle to fit my filly below. She is only 3 so I'm not too thrilled about getting into something serious until she's done growing... but at the end of the day even if she grows up and fills out, I am thin...

Re: backin out of a trailer

I agree with KW, I always start with the trailer level to the ground. I also add to that, by teaching my horses a verbal "down" cue - so I back them slowly one foot at a time and when it comes to the point where the next step is out of the trailer, I start to say "down" and they ...

Re: feed

carbs and sugar are different. carbohydrates turn to glycogen which is stored in the muscle, spleen, and in fats. but sugar/starch are more in line. All grain is higher in starch/suger. corn is the worst and highest (like over 80%). oats i believe is around 26%. peas look to be high in starch (45%) ...

i have a long sleeve shirt, if your neck gets sore though you might want to consider a scarf or a turtleneck, but any tshirt is great for back/shouder pain.

Re: Stall Rest

I went through this last year as well for 2 months. I made a second small pen attached to hers, and "sacrificed" a companion horse every day. Luckily I had 6 other horses, so they each spent one day week keeping her company. I found it wasn't good enough for my mare to just have them in th...

Re: is my horse gonna be okay? Help!

his body likely excreeted the excess, that's why most joint supplements make you increase to the max dose slowly, if you put all that "stuff" in to them at once when they're not used to it, the body doesn't know what to do with it and says "see-ya!" i might expect some diahreah b...
