Re: Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program

As a breeder of paint running horse I would like to see any incentive that could further interest in them as barrel horses.

Re: Horse Transportation to US info

I don't believe you need a brand inspection. I've sent a number of horses across the border both personally and professionally and have never needed a a brand inspection.

Re: Horse Transportation to US info

Nothing other than coggins and export (health) papers are required. I would recommend Mark Roy of Gold Buckle Equine Transport.

Re: Exporting Horses to US

I don't believe there is any additional paperwork. Only the coggins form ask's why you are testing. The export papers don't ask why the horse is crossing border. When we do them up for a horse that is crossing but coming back it is the same papers as for a horse that is being sold from Canada to the...

Re: pregnant mares

It sounds like you are doing all the right things. Don't overfeed your mare. You want her in good shape but not too fat as fat mares are more likely to have a harder time giving birth if they have fat in their pelvic region. The foal will start putting on size around the 8-9 month mark so your mare ...

Re: 5 month old colt's tendons?

Sounds like contracted tendons to me. Has he been like this since birth or has it just stared? Often stretching and bandaging/splinting can help but being that he is an older baby I'm not sure if this is the way to go. Definitely consult with a vet.

Re: Gelding colts

One thing to keep in mind is that the younger they are the more likely they are to have on open inguinal ring. This can allow for intestines to herniate out of and that is a life threatening condition. The inguinal ring closes with age. I've seen it happen twice on colts gelded at 5-6 months of age....

Re: Stallions with sarcoids

How to teat depends on the type of sarcoid. There are 4 types. The flat ones on the body are generally best left alone unless they are in an area that will interfere with tack. In time (may be years) they tend to go away on their own. Raise ones on the body can be surgically removed and this is usua...

Re: First Time clearing/fencing... help?

With Grazon you can spray and leave the horses on hence its name. I have used in many times in pastures with horses and have sprayed without taking them off. No problem. I have used in with a hand sprayer, quad sprayer and tractor sprayer. No issues with any. Be careful around spruce trees that you ...

Re: First Time clearing/fencing... help?

I like Grazon. It will kill the clover and other broadleaf weeds. Likely it will kill the brush and small trees too - so you can later cut them down and burn them. I cleaned out my stallions pen this way. It takes the grass about 1 year to come in nice and thick.

Re: Buckskin Mare

Hi. That sounds like Jim Keiths brand. He had a PMU in Entwistle and ran upwards of 1000 head. Over the years he had many stallions. Most were foundation/cow bred. It would be hard to classify what horses from his operation were like as there were so many of them with many personality types.

Sounds like either PSSM (Polysaccharide Storoage Myopathy) or insulin resistance.
