Re: Navicular

I have a gelding who I'm managing to keep sound enough for riding and getting back to barrel racing. I use the barefoot trim with him, which I've found worked best, but have also had wedge shoes on him in the past. I give him Recovery EQ daily in his feed, also give him Previcox to help manage any p...

Re: Saddle Pads

Have you tried the Classic Equine ESP Contoured pad? We use it for our higher withered horses. It has memory foam on both sides, without building up the height of the wither. The memory foam really conforms to the horse and seems to really fit a lot of horses. They're really good quality pads that s...

Re: Canadian pro rodeo and American competitors

In my honest opinion I think that Americans have enough rodeo's and warm weather to stay down there and qualify for their own rodeo's, Canadian finals says it all in the title. Rodeo's should also really start encouraging the young people as well they are the future of this event, I know they say t...

Re: founder/laminitis

It really depends on the forage and supplement program you have your horse on. The minerals you use should be supplying what is missing in the rest of your feed program. If you're unsure, it is really best to have a nutritionalist out to help you balance your feed program, and send away a forage sam...

Re: founder/laminitis

It depends on why your horse has rotated coffin bones. Are they rotated due to foundering caused by feed? Or due to laminitis for another reason (drugs, trauma)? If its due to feed founder, then we feed a grass hay, trying to keep alfalfa/protein levels down. If the horse seems to need more to keep ...

Re: Feed for ulcer prone horses

Brewer's yeast and Aloe Vera are excellent, but that's if you've made sure to take care of any existing ulcers first.

Re: Getting speed on the pattern

I feel like you may need to work on some of your own problems before addressing his. Calling your run a "fail" is not a proactive way to get a horse started on barrels. Also, it sounds like you had a mixup in your piloting him in this run. Inexperienced horses usually can't make up for our...

Re: Barefoot vs. Shoeing for founder

Have you had him x-rayed to see if there's any rotation? I would say how you treat it will be very dependent on how severe the case is.

Re: Teeth grinding

I'm sure it will have nothing to do with the bit. Many of these guys coming off the track will have been under pressure at some point and may have developed ulcers. I would have him checked and possibly treated for ulcers and see if that helps. I have found this to be the problem to each track horse...

Re: Interview with Lindsay Sears - questions?

I would love to know what she does/uses for maintenance and feed on Martha to keep her feeling good for 10 awesome rounds of barrels! That mare ran so consistent and seemed to feel great all 10 days :)

Re: Let's talk tires

To Janeen; As far as we've found with trailer tires, I've tried the 10plys -- Didn't last at all! Seemed like I was constantly going through 10ply tires. Mind you, we are always hauling a full load on our trailer, you may be alright if not hauling as much weight. But we've now switched to buying a 1...
