Government Grants

Postby lcarter » Fri Jan 08, 2010 1:55 pm

Hi all,

I have heard that you can attain government grants for building a riding facility (arena), however, you must host community events - jackpots, etc - and things that benefit the area in which you have built the facility. Has anyone else heard about this option or anything similar to it? Just looking for some info on if it exists (past or present) as I couldn't find anything on the Gov't of Alberta website. Anyway - just thought I'd through it out there to see what everyone comes up with!

I would sure like to know about that too. I have just moved to Onoway from the Lethbridge area and I find that there is a serious lack of arenas available to ride in, at least ones that aren't privately owned and geared towards reiners or cutters. Short of driving to Thorsby, where can you go? All across southern AB there is no shortage of Ag Societies where you can go and ride at an affortable rate and I know now I sure took it for granted.

My sister could probably dig that up for you - she works with the AB Gov and she works with Ag Societies on grants and funding. Let me dig up her contact info and I can pm you - either that or I can see if she will jump on the forum to answer questions -

What about getting a grant if you have already started the arena, would love to know if we could get some help as it is quite expensive to build an arena. Ours is almost completed and we do plan to host local events in it!!! Look forward to hearing more!

thanks redzed! As for the gal who moved to Onoway; there is an arena not too far from Onoway - down the Heatherdown Road (east) and then there is an area on Hwy 16 towards Wabamun (Headin West) that also allows outside riders. Just some info for you incase you're interested.

Does anyone know if there are any similar programs available in Saskatchewan.
I have searched a lot and can't come up with anything, but I do remember someone mentioning something like this to me some time ago . . .

Any help to send me in the right direction would be appreciated!
