Insurance to ride at a public arena?

Postby peanutbutterskunk » Thu Jul 14, 2011 10:03 pm

So I go to ride at the Taber agriplex tonight and there is a sign on the door saying there is no more day fee rides available (used to be $10/ride), that you must pay for either a monthly membership or a yearly membership and that when buying a membership you must show proof of alberta equine insurance or personal insurance. Is this what all the public arena's are starting to do now? What about going to a jackpot or show at that facility...will they be checking that everyone has insurance? Is this a policy you can add to your home owners insurance?

That's really weird, because all arena's should carry liability insurance, so that if you get hurt and sue them, they are covered. That is also why most arena's will make you sign a liability waiver, and have signs posted that you ride at your own risk. I would go to the association and ask what the reasoning is behind the change......

Our gymkhana club makes you get your own insurance through AEF or you can't ride.... and it's a community arena that's used....
