Peoples thoughts on a High Dollar Barrel Race

Hi all!!! As the Barrel Bash is nearing around the coner and planning the format is in the making, we were wondering what your thoughts would be on adding a High Dollar Barrel Race to it? Now we realize this is not for everyone as the fees would be much higher and of course we would be looking at only the top 1D girls/guys entering, but it would give that somebody a large pocket full of cash. We were milling the idea of $250-$300 fees and only one run. There would be no prizes just a cash payout. Not sure if anyone would enter or not, but we thought it would add a little more excitment to the weekend and display the tuff horses, courage and confidence of our jockey's here in this area and surounding areas too.

Please let us know what your thoughts are on this idea!!!! Nothing is written in stone............want to make it right and to do so we need your help, as it's people like yourself who make this Barrel Bash a great event!!!!

I think you should have a regular race with some added money and then a feature with the big entry fee and big payout like a slot rate where you only sell 30 spots and all the money is paid out.

When you say high dollar...how much is that and what are you thinking for a payout format?

The slot race is a good idea, the diamond E series in the south here (magrath/cardston) does it, and they 3d the slot race...30 slots at $100.00, great idea, and very exciting.

In conjuction with our 4D jackpot we want to feature a 3D Slot Race and this is the format we are thinking of:
50 Slots with a 3D format
96% payout and paying 3 holes in each division
$250.00 entry fee
Payout 50% of the pot in the 1D, 30% in the 2D and 20% in the 3D
Pre-enter

How does this look everybody? Feedback welcome....................please!!!

I think it sounds like a good idea, it would be nice to see slot races up in Canada of any format.

I think sounds like a marvelous idea!
We were thinking about adding a slot race to our series as well, as an added event on the side also with just cash and no prizes. Makes it easier.

Diamond E does an amazing job on theirs!!

Have you set the tentative dates for your Barrel Bash yet? I'm hoping to be able to go to this again this year but, also not have to chose between the High River Finals and the Spring Fling (Brooks) Finals. JMO.

This jackpot will be held in Olds, AB and we will still be having a warm-up pot and a 4D jackpot too. More to come.

I produce the Diamond E Classic Slot Race in Cardston and it is really fun and exciting! Something to consider if you do a slot race is that it's nice to know ahead of time what you will win back when you pay the big fee. 50 slots is alot especially at $250 fees, you may have a hard time selling all of the slots. I know that in Havre MT they have a slot race, $250 Fees and 50 slots and they have a really hard time selling them all, which then means the payout isn't that big for what you're putting into it. We sell 30 slots at $100 and pay 2 holes per division. Guaranteed to win $900 for 1st in the 1D and then it goes down from there. We get the slots sold easily and we have a waiting list for the next year and that way there's always 30 contestants. Good luck!

Thanks Staci for the advice, we will keep it in mind. We are aware of the Montana slot race too and they did fill 48 out of the 50 slots offered. We do realize if we add this to our 4D jackpot the fees are steep at $250, but the purpose of this would be to have a barrel race that will pay out more money. Our jackpot last year payed out close to $1000 for 1st in each divison (4D) alone with only 200 entries. This is what the payout would look like if all 50 slots were filled:

First Division (1D)
1st: $3000
2nd: $1080
3rd: $1200

Second Division (2D)
1st: $1800
2nd: $1080
3rd: $720

Third Division (3D)
1st: $1200
2nd: $720
3rd: $480

We are still milling this around yet..........nothing written in stone yet. Our theory is BIG FEES means BIG MONEY!!!! There is so many jackpots out there but no chance to really win a large amount of cash. When we look back at last year's 3D and 4D winners, after winning close to $1000 it was so rewarding. Think about it........please more feedback!!!!!

I think go big or go home. haha.

There arent too many big paying jackpots out there, so that slot race would be FANTASTIC with a 200, or 250 fee.

Cant wait! :)

I wouldn't pay $250 for a chance to win $3,000, but I definitely would if it was a straight pay-out (only one division) Just my opinion... and thank you for looking at ways to entice the barrel racers; very appreciated!
