Personnally, whether a jackpot is sanctioned or not doesn't matter to me anymore. There are so many more barrel racers out there now than there was say 10 years ago thanks to the ABRA and other organizations like it that most events follow the same basic guidelines regarding ground condition, pattern sizes etc.
I haven't bought a membership the last couple years because I wasn't planning on going to the finals (ABRA). I am not sure what it would take for me to buy a membership again, but I find there is no shortage of jackpots to attend membership required or not.
If it is within travelling distance, good ground, and enough added money i am in whether it is sanctioned or not. If you don't have sanctioning you do need to check into insurance and what would happen is someone or animal was to get hurt at your event though. Sanctioned events have the insurance coverage and that is why it is good to have sanctioning, but if you got insurance then hats off to you for putting together an event that we can all come and enjoy.
