Training/Rodeo Tips From The Champs

by Shayna on August 18, 2011

We thought we would combine all of the training/rodeo tips into one post that we got from all the Champs we have interviewed so far.  Each and everyone had their own unique tip, we hope some of them inspire you, enjoy!

Trula Churchill“To not worry about others and what they are doing and what they are doing with their horses.  You need to focus on and do what works for you and your own horse.”

Melissa Harding “Be patient and listen to your horse, chances are if he isn’t working he’s trying to tell you something.”

Bailey McCannell “For you to always keep working hard at what you want to do, to never stop trying and you will sooner or later get to where you want to be.”

Lee Ann Rust“You can’t dwell on what is behind you, you got to keep looking at what is ahead.”

Joleen Seitz“Keep your chin up and be thankful for your horse.”

Deb Renger“With ground conditions being crappy etc. don’t get frustrated and give up, keep going and trying.  If you want to rodeo and do good no matter how bad things get (ground etc.) it always turns around and will work out if you hang in there and keep trying.  You got to do what you need to do to help your horse in crappier situations whether it be changing your riding for poor ground conditions etc.”

Bailee Switzer“I think if you can always have a positive attitude and focus on the positive aspects of your runs or life in general you are doing great.  I also think we should always give our horses the benefit of the doubt.  Not everyone is perfect 100% of the time, we all have off days and horses are no different.  If something is really wrong we need to search for the answer our horse can’t put into words so they stay healthy, sound and happy.”

Kareen Warren“The biggest tip I would like to share is keep it simple.  Horses are black or white.  They don’t understand the grey zone.”

Melissa Thiessen “Keep yourself and your horse happy.  That is why we do this for fun and lots of people forget the fun part.”

Julie Leggett – “Focus on the big picture.  Enjoy what you’re doing and your horse will enjoy his job.”
